This is an image of my grandfather in the military in World War II. He fought in North Africa, then the Middle East (this picture was labeled as being taken in Persia-Iran didn’t exist yet), then China. He tried to adopt a Chinese orphan who had befriended soldiers in his unit, but was rejected due to official American government policy at the time. This policy was changed during the Korean War.

This picture was taken in 1943.
